History and Location

Ilkal is a major city in Bagalkot District of Karnataka. The city is located on the South-East border beside NH-50 and 60 Kms away from the district head quarter. It is surrounded by several historical places such as Badami, Bijapur, Hampi, Aihole, Pttadakal and Kodalsangama. Chiefly the city is renowned for its elegant, “Ilkal Saree” and eye catching ‘Pink-Granite’. It is an epicenter of Hindu-Muslim harmony representing the democratic ideals of His Holiness Shri Vijaya Mahanth Swamiji and a Sufi Saint Hazrat Murtuza Khadri. It is also a home of artists, a corridor of cultural activities, a hub of commercial activities and above all a city of enlightened citizens.
